Right, let’s not waste any time because this weekend across European football is genuinely something special. Four leagues, all deep into the business end of the season, all serving up fixtures that carry real weight. In England we have a title race sitting on a razor’s edge — Manchester City and Arsenal are literally inseparable on the table, locked on 70 points apiece after City edged a cracking game at the Etihad 2–1 last Sunday. One dropped point between now and the final whistle of the season and it could all unravel. In Spain, Barcelona are nine points clear and cruising but they still have to get the job done, and Getafe are precisely the sort of side who’d love to be the ones to spoil the party.
Italy is serving up AC Milan versus Juventus at San Siro which, honestly, needs no further introduction. And in Germany, Bayern Munich are an unstoppable force marching toward yet another title. Every single one of the games I’m previewing below matters. So settle in, grab whatever you’re drinking, and let’s talk football.
Chapter One
Premier League
Matchday 34 · Saturday 25 April 2026 · The title race has no margin for error
Title Six-PointerSat 25 Apr · 17:30 BST · Emirates Stadium
Arsenal vs Newcastle United
I’ll be direct this is the most important match of Arsenal’s weekend, and possibly their season. Manchester City sit level on 70 points at the top of the table with identical records. City beat Arsenal 2–1 at the Etihad last Sunday, which means the Gunners are now chasing City on goal difference. That result stings and Arteta’s squad know it. There is absolutely no room for anything less than three points here.
Newcastle arrive in 14th place on 42 points, safe from relegation and with nothing on the line which, as any experienced football supporter will tell you, makes them more dangerous rather than less. A team with no pressure plays loose, direct, and occasionally brilliant. Eddie Howe’s side are capable of exactly that kind of performance. They’ll sit in two banks of four, hit Arsenal on the transition, and if Isak gets a sniff on goal, the Emirates will go quiet very quickly.

Arsenal’s saving grace is that the Emirates crowd, when fully locked in behind the team, is one of the most potent home environments in the division. Arteta will set his side up to dominate possession from the first whistle, press high, and smother Newcastle before they can settle. If Arsenal can score first and they really must this becomes a very different proposition for Newcastle.
“City level on points, identical records, and Arsenal are at home. There is no more important fixture in England this weekend.”
My Call: Arsenal 2–0 Newcastle
Anfield · SaturdaySat 25 Apr · 15:00 BST · Anfield
Liverpool vs Crystal Palace
Liverpool come into this on the back of a 2–1 win at Goodison in the Merseyside Derby Liverpool winning, which is exactly the kind of momentum that gets the Kop buzzing. They sit fifth on 55 points and European qualification is still the mission. Crystal Palace, sitting 13th on 43 points, drew 0–0 at West Ham on Monday. Nothing threatening in that result — solid, unremarkable, forgettable.

At Anfield, Liverpool are a completely different animal. The atmosphere gets under the skin of visiting teams and Palace, without a genuine cutting edge up front, are going to find it very difficult to hold on for anything here. I expect Liverpool to dominate the ball, create chances in waves, and eventually see this out comfortably enough. My Call: Liverpool 2–1 Crystal Palace
Relegation DogfightSat 25 Apr · 15:00 BST · Molineux
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Tottenham Hotspur
Now here’s a match with a very different kind of weight on it. Wolves are bottom of the league on just 17 points after 33 games that is a truly awful return and relegation, unless something dramatic happens between now and May, is all but confirmed. This is already starting to feel like a team playing out the season rather than fighting for their lives, and that is the worst place to be.
Tottenham are not safe either. They sit 18th on 31 points three places and fourteen points above Wolves but only five clear of the bottom three when you remove Wolves from the picture. They drew 2–2 at Brighton last weekend, which showed some character but also showed the defensive frailty that has plagued them all season. Ange Postecoglou’s side need wins urgently. The good news for Spurs is that Wolves at home, as desperate as it sounds, might actually be the kind of fixture they can take advantage of.
Molineux will be tense, fractious, and deeply uncomfortable to watch. But on quality and motivation, Spurs edge this just.My Call: Wolves 1–2 Tottenham
Craven Cottage · SaturdaySat 25 Apr · 12:30 BST · Craven Cottage
Fulham vs Aston Villa
Aston Villa played one of the matches of the weekend last Sunday a wild 4–3 win at home over Sunderland, and they’ll arrive at Craven Cottage still buzzing from that. They sit fourth on 58 points, tied with Manchester United, and a Champions League spot is genuinely within reach. Losing now would be calamitous for those ambitions.
Fulham are a decent mid-table side on 45 points but have been inconsistent at home and lack the firepower to really punish top-half opposition. Marco Silva’s side are organised and professional but Villa when clicking are a cut above what Fulham can handle. I see Villa finding a way to take all three points here, even if it’s not pretty. My Call: Fulham 1–2 Aston Villa
London Stadium · SaturdaySat 25 Apr · 15:00 BST · London Stadium
West Ham United vs Everton
West Ham are in a genuinely precarious spot 17th on 33 points, just two points above the relegation zone. The 0–0 draw at Crystal Palace on Monday was frankly not good enough. They desperately need wins and they needed them yesterday. Everton on the other hand are comfortable in 10th on 47 points, coming off a 1–2 loss to Liverpool in the Derby a result that will have stung their supporters but doesn’t fundamentally change their season.
West Ham have to win this. The crowd will demand it, the manager will demand it, the points table will demand it. But Everton are streetwise enough to come here and nick something, and that possibility is what should be keeping West Ham’s supporters awake at night. I genuinely wouldn’t back either side to dominate this one it has share-the-spoils written all over it.My Call: West Ham 1–1 Everton
Chapter Two
La Liga
Matchday 34–35 · Friday 24 – Sunday 26 April · Barcelona on the brink of the title
Tonight Fri 24 AprFri 24 Apr · 21:00 CEST · Estadio Benito Villamarín
Real Betis vs Real Madrid
We start the weekend a little early because this one kicks off tonight, and it’s worth your full attention. Real Madrid are second in the table on 73 points nine behind Barcelona and while the title is almost certainly heading to Camp Nou, Los Blancos’ pride demands they keep winning. They beat Deportivo Alavés 2–1 on Tuesday to keep the pressure nominally on Barça, and Carlo Ancelotti will want the same controlled performance here.
Real Betis on 49 points sit fifth and are fighting for European qualification themselves, which means they have every reason to come at Madrid tonight. And at the Benito Villamarín, Betis are absolutely not a team you take lightly this ground has a fierce atmosphere and they beat Girona 3–2 in their last home outing. Madrid should win, but expect a serious test before they do.My Call: Real Betis 1–2 Real Madrid
Title HousekeepingSat 25 Apr · 16:15 CEST · Coliseum Alfonso Pérez
Getafe vs Barcelona
Barcelona are top on 82 points with a nine-point gap over Real Madrid, and even a defeat here would leave them comfortably in front with games to run. Mathematically they haven’t won it yet, but in every meaningful sense, this is a title celebration waiting for a venue. They beat Celta Vigo 1–0 in midweek workmanlike, job done, moving on.

Now here’s where it gets interesting. Getafe are sixth on 44 points and José Bordalás their manager and a man who has made a career out of making technically superior sides miserable will set his team up to disrupt, frustrate, and grind. They beat Real Sociedad 1–0 in midweek with exactly that approach. Barcelona have the individual quality to unlock almost anyone, but they will need their best football to do it here. Don’t be surprised if this is tight for long periods before Barça eventually find a way through.
“Getafe won’t care about the aesthetics. They’ll sit deep, work hard, and make Barcelona earn every single moment.”
My Call: Getafe 0–2 Barcelona
Must WatchSat 25 Apr · 21:00 CEST · Estadio Cívitas Metropolitano
Atletico Madrid vs Athletic Bilbao
This is the match I’m most intrigued by in La Liga this weekend. Atletico are fourth on 57 points but their grip on that position is not as comfortable as they’d like Villarreal in third have 62 points and are not dropping off. More pressingly, Atletico just lost 3–2 away at Elche in a result that genuinely shocked me. Elche. Diego Simeone will have been absolutely furious with that, and his sides historically respond to humiliation with a performance that is almost violent in its intensity.
Athletic Bilbao in ninth on 41 points are a tough, direct Basque side who press aggressively, win aerial duels, and make games incredibly difficult. They’re not here to be intimidated by the Metropolitano or Simeone’s glare from the touchline. This will be a proper game physical, competitive, and edgy throughout. But Atletico at home, backed into a corner after that Elche defeat, is not a place most teams want to be. I think Simeone gets his reaction here.My Call: Atletico Madrid 2–1 Athletic Bilbao
Sunday EveningSun 26 Apr · 21:00 CEST · Estadio de la Cerámica
Villarreal vs RC Celta de Vigo
Villarreal have had a genuinely excellent season. Third on 62 points, they are well-placed for a Champions League return and five points clear of Atletico behind them. With five matches remaining they simply cannot afford to let their foot off the gas and a home game against Celta Vigo (seventh, 44 points) is a prime opportunity to build that cushion further. The Yellow Submarine at home, with European momentum and a full stadium behind them, should be too much for a Celta side without anything concrete to play for at this stage. My Call: Villarreal 2–0 Celta de Vigo
Chapter Three
Serie A
Matchday 34–35 · Friday 24 – Sunday 26 April · Inter march toward the Scudetto
Tonight Fri 24 AprFri 24 Apr · 20:45 CEST · Stadio Diego Armando Maradona
Napoli vs Cremonese
Napoli sit third on 66 points, level with AC Milan in second but behind them on goal difference. They’re locked in a three-way fight for the two spots behind Inter Milan with Milan and Juventus, and every single game matters. Their last home outing was a genuinely poor one a 2–0 defeat to Lazio at the Maradona, and the pressure to respond immediately is immense. Cremonese are 17th on 28 points and are fighting for survival with no quality to spare.
On paper this should be comfortable. In practice, Napoli after a home defeat are either brilliant or brittle and there’s rarely a middle ground. I’m going with brilliant tonight. The Maradona crowd will demand it and Cremonese simply don’t have the defensive organisation to contain Napoli when they’re moving with intent. My Call: Napoli 3–0 Cremonese
Saturday AfternoonSat 25 Apr · 18:00 CEST · Stadio Renato Dall’Ara
Bologna vs AS Roma
Roma sit sixth on 58 points level with Como, and the race for European football in Italy is genuinely bunched up. They drew 1–1 with Atalanta at the Olimpico last Saturday, which felt like two points dropped rather than one earned. Bologna are eighth on 48 points and lost 2–0 at Juventus last weekend, which exposed some defensive vulnerabilities that Roma will be very aware of.
I fancy Roma here. They have the stronger incentive, the better form over recent weeks, and Bologna away from home in this kind of mid-table limbo can be susceptible. Should be an open, entertaining game with chances at both ends Roma’s ability to take theirs will be the deciding factor. My Call: Bologna 1–2 AS Roma
Sunday AfternoonSun 26 Apr · 18:00 CEST · Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino
Torino vs Inter Milan
Inter Milan are on 78 points at the top twelve clear of Milan and Napoli in second and third. The Scudetto is theirs to lose at this point and Simone Inzaghi knows it. They were outstanding in their last outing, beating Cagliari 3–0 with a performance that felt almost effortless. Torino sit 12th on 40 points, drew 0–0 with Cremonese last time, and are simply drifting through the end of the season with nothing meaningful left to play for.
This should be a comfortable Inter win. Inzaghi will likely rotate a few faces to keep his squad fresh, but even at 80% this Inter side has too much quality for Torino to handle. Expect an early goal and then controlled, professional management of the game from the champions-in-waiting.My Call: Torino 0–3 Inter Milan
Derby d’Italia Sunday NightSun 26 Apr · 20:45 CEST · Stadio Giuseppe Meazza
AC Milan vs Juventus
I’ve saved this one until last because it deserves the full treatment. Milan versus Juventus. San Siro. Sunday night. The two most storied clubs in Italian football history, separated by three points, in a match that could significantly reshape the battle for Champions League places. This is the fixture Serie A exists for.
Milan are second on 66 points, level with Napoli but ahead on goal difference. They beat Hellas Verona 1–0 away last Sunday controlled, professional, exactly what a team with their eyes on a prize needs. Juventus are fourth on 63 points and came into the week in excellent form, beating Bologna 2–0 to apply pressure on the clubs above them. Three points here and Juve are right back in the thick of a three-way fight for second place.

Both managers will be acutely aware of what dropping points means. This is the kind of game where caution can produce a surprisingly open contest because both sides know they need to win rather than settle. I expect chances, I expect tension, and I expect the kind of quality that only these two clubs can produce at this level. My gut says it ends level a draw that keeps the tension alive going into the final stretch but I would not be remotely surprised by either side nicking it.
“San Siro on a Sunday night, title places on the line, Milan versus Juventus. This is what Italian football was made for.”
My Call: AC Milan 1–1 Juventus
Chapter Four
Bundesliga
Matchday 30–31 · Saturday 25 – Sunday 26 April · Bayern on the verge of the title
Title WatchSat 25 Apr · 15:30 CEST · MEWA Arena, Mainz
FSV Mainz vs Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich are on 79 points at the top of the Bundesliga fifteen points clear of Borussia Dortmund in second, and are coasting toward another title. The most extraordinary thing about this Bayern season under Vincent Kompany is how dominant it has been; they’ve lost just once all campaign and this weekend they can potentially put the title mathematically beyond reach depending on results. Their last outing was a 4–2 thrashing of Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena a spectacular display of attacking football that had everyone purring.

Mainz are tenth on 34 points, drew 1–1 with Monchengladbach in their last game, and are comfortable in mid-table. They’re not going to cause Bayern any real problems here. Kompany will rotate, rest some legs, and still see his side win without breaking a sweat. This is a title parade in slow motion. My Call: Mainz 0–3 Bayern Munich
Rhineland DerbySat 25 Apr · 15:30 CEST · RheinEnergieStadion, Cologne
1. FC Cologne vs Bayer Leverkusen
The Rhineland Derby is one of German football’s great local rivalries, and it arrives at a fascinating moment. Leverkusen, the reigning Bundesliga champions who famously went the entire 2023–24 season unbeaten, are having a very different year, in sixth place on 52 points. They lost 2–1 at home to Augsburg last weekend in a result that stung their European ambitions, and they need to get back on track here. Cologne in 12th on 31 points drew 1–1 away at St. Pauli on Friday a point on the road is fine but they’ll need a different kind of performance here, lifted by their own supporters and the intensity that only a Derby brings.
Derby matches throw form out of the window entirely. The atmosphere will be enormous, the tackles will be fierce, and no scoreline is impossible. On pure quality Leverkusen are the better side, but I’d be lying if I said I was fully confident calling this. Derby day has a habit of making a fool of the most considered prediction. My Call: Cologne 1–2 Bayer Leverkusen
Signal Iduna Park · SundaySun 26 Apr · 17:30 CEST · Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund vs SC Freiburg
Dortmund are second in the Bundesliga on 64 points, fifteen behind Bayern and chasing a strong finish for European ambitions. They suffered a surprisingly poor 2–1 defeat at Hoffenheim two weekends ago a result that will have irritated the dressing room, and Signal Iduna Park on a Sunday afternoon, roaring for a response, is exactly where Dortmund look most dangerous. Freiburg sit seventh on 43 points and are comfortable but uninspiring. BVB should deal with this convincingly. My Call: Dortmund 3–1 SC Freiburg
Sunday · MHPArenaSun 26 Apr · 15:30 CEST · MHPArena, Stuttgart
VfB Stuttgart vs Werder Bremen
Stuttgart are fourth on 56 points and well-placed for Champions League qualification they need to keep winning to hold off Hoffenheim above them in fifth who have 54 points. They lost 4–2 at Bayern last Sunday which, given the context, is an entirely forgivable result Bayern are absolutely sensational right now. What matters is they bounce back here at home. Werder Bremen in 15th on 31 points are in a relegation scrap but come into this with some confidence they beat Hamburger SV 3–1 at home last Saturday, which will have lifted the dressing room. Don’t expect them to roll over. Stuttgart still have too much quality, but Bremen will make them work for it.My Call: Stuttgart 3–0 Werder Bremen
Final Word from the Pundit
What a weekend to be a football supporter anywhere on this continent. Four leagues, all serving up something worth staying awake for. In England the title race is as tight as it gets every Arsenal fan will be watching the scores from the Etihad with one eye and their own game with the other. In Spain, Barcelona are almost there but have the awkward business of actually finishing it off. Italy gives us San Siro on a Sunday night with European places at stake. And Germany? Bayern are coming for another one and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Enjoy every minute. This is what the game is for.MatchdayPundit · All European Football · Kick-off times in local league timezone · April 25–27, 2026
